About
Dr David Slattery is an orthopaedic surgeon who has relocated to the Sunshine Coast from Melbourne to provide orthopaedic hip and knee procedures to the community he now calls home. He has experience in direct anterior (minimally invasive) hip replacement and both robotic and conventional knee replacement, and has performed thousands of these operations. He undertook fellowship training in Switzerland, the UK and Melbourne, where he learnt the intricacies of these techniques, and he now mentors and trains junior surgeons in them. He also provides radiofrequency joint denervation (RFA) as a non-invasive treatment for hip and knee arthritis.
He is also experienced in treating young adult hip and knee conditions and is one of only a few surgeons in Australia performing PAO surgery and hip arthroscopies. He has spent many years working at the Royal Children’s Hospital, where he gained experience dealing with hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, labral tears and soft tissue hip problems. These conditions are not normally managed by generalist orthopaedic surgeons, and he brings this expertise to the Sunshine Coast, where such a service has not previously existed.
Happy patients are at the heart of Dr Slattery’s practice, and he prides himself on excellent communication and on achieving the best possible outcome for every patient he treats. He has also studied law at Melbourne University and is a Fellow of the Australian College of Legal Medicine — his medicolegal work has given him a deep appreciation of clear patient communication, and he applies this to keep his patients as safe and as well-informed as possible.
Dr Slattery has deep ties to Queensland, having graduated with First Class Honours from UQ, and is thrilled to be able to call the Sunshine Coast home. If he is not in the operating theatre or clinic, he is more than likely out on the water fishing, making the most of the Sunshine State.
