Clinical Practice
Dr Balendra is a locally trained Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist with experience across both malignant and non-malignant haematology. He manages patients with chronic haematological malignancies including leukaemias, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative neoplasms, as well as benign conditions such as anaemia, abnormal blood counts, thrombosis and iron disorders. Patients with acute leukaemias are managed within the public hospital system. Dr Balendra practises at Hollywood Private Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. His clinical focus includes the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic leukaemias, lymphoma, myeloma, myeloproliferative disorders and thrombosis. He provides coordinated, patient-centred care with an emphasis on shared care frameworks and the thoughtful use of digital health solutions to support patient outcomes.
Background and Training
Dr Balendra completed his undergraduate medical degree at Monash University and undertook general medical training at Fremantle Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), and a member of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH). He holds an appointment as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Western Australia and remains actively involved in medical education and training.
Research and Clinical Trials
Dr Balendra is involved in a range of clinical trials, providing eligible patients with access to emerging and novel therapies in haematology. His research interests include the application of digital health platforms, including artificial intelligence, to support clinical decision-making and enhance the delivery of haematology care.
