Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr William Yan, an ophthalmologist with fellowship training in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery. He manages a range of retinal and vitreous pathology, including vitreomacular traction, vitreous haemorrhage, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and retinal detachment. His practice also includes complex cataract surgery, and secondary lens cases.
William completed his medical degree at Monash University, followed by a Master of Philosophy in Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, where he was awarded the RB McComas Research Scholarship. He subsequently undertook a Master of Science at Stanford University with full funding as a Fulbright Scholar, majoring in bioinformatics.
He underwent specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, followed by fellowship training in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery in the United Kingdom and in Australia at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. William is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is involved in research with the Centre for Eye Research Australia and the University of Melbourne.
He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He has a focus on evidence-based clinical care and bringing patients in on their care journey.
